Ukraine war has no winners, peace can be restored only through talks - Belarus leader
MINSK. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko believes that the sides should do whatever it takes to end fighting in eastern Ukraine, and negotiations are the only way to restore peace in the country.
"Our stance is the following: hostilities in Ukraine should be stopped. Relations with Ukraine have already become extremely complicated," Lukashenko told Russian regional media companies on Friday.
"Peace can be restored in Ukraine only through negotiations. There can be no winners in this war," he added.
The Belarusian president also reiterated the need to start rebuilding Ukrainian towns and villages as soon as possible.
"Thousands of refugees have already come to Belarus and Russia from Ukraine. We ought to help them in a brotherly way, in a humane way," he said.
"We know who is implementing this strategy of sustainable chaos in the world today. Attempts are being made from outside to drive a wedge in relations between our countries," he said.
