Georgia will urge EU to react to draft accord between Russia, Abkhazia - foreign minister

TBILISI. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said the draft agreement on allied relations and integration between Russia and Abkhazia, expected to be signed before the end of the year, had changed the agenda of her visit to European countries starting Monday.

"I will give this particular issue key weight on the agenda of the Luxembourg meeting of the European Union's Council of Ministers tomorrow, which is to address the signing of an association agreement with Georgia. We have prepared a report on this draft agreement and will ask our colleagues in the European Union to react accordingly," Panjikidze told reporters before departure to Luxembourg.

"Georgia has been living in an absolutely new reality" since this draft was made public, she said.

"An adjusted agenda of my visits to the European capitals, with a focus on the draft agreement between Russia and Abkhazia, is a manifestation of the intensive foreign policy," the Georgian foreign minister said.

Panjikidze earlier told journalists that the signing of an agreement on allied relations and integration between Russia and Abkhazia will be tantamount to "Abkhazia's annexation by Russia."
