Russian unemployment ranges from 1.2% in St. Petersburg to 31.1% in Ingushetia - Rosstat

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - The unemployment level in Russia's regions continues to vary considerably, by 3.5 times across federal districts and by nearly 26 times across individual regions, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a report for September 2014.

Russia's overall unemployment level was 4.9% in September 2014, up from 4.8% in August.

As usual, the lowest September unemployment level under ILO criteria was in the Central Federal District - 3.1%. The highest, also as usual, was in the Northern Caucasus Federal District - 10.8%.

In the North-West Federal District, the unemployment level in September was 3.9%, in the Volga Federal District - 4%, in Far East Federal District - 5.9%, the Urals Federal District - 6.2% and in the Siberian Federal District - 6.4%.

The highest level of unemployment in July-September (average for the three months to raise representativeness) was in Ingushetia (31.1%), Chechnya (21.1%) and Tuva (18.4%). Double-digit employment was also posted in the Republics Karachaevo-Cherkessia (13.7%), Altai (11.3%) and Kalmykia (10.5%).

The lowest unemployment in July-September was in St. Petersburg (1.2%), Moscow (1.4%), the Samara region (2.3%), Magadan region (2.4%), Chukotka autonomous district (2.5%), Moscow region (2.6%) Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district (2.9%), Lipetsk region (3%) and the Republic of Tatarstan (3.3%).
