French national detained for using drone to photograph Red Square - source

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Special services have detained a French national in central Moscow for attempting to take images of Red Square using a drone, a source in Moscow law enforcement services told Interfax on Monday.

A citizen of France, aged 29, who temporarily resides in Moscow, was detained on Vasilyevsky Spusk early on Sunday after it was found out that he had let out a drone with a video camera. The video camera was seized. Experts viewed it and established that the French citizens was an amateur photographer and that neither the camera, not the film were of interest to special services.

The foreigner said through an interpreter that he was just having fun and wanted to take bird's eye images of Red Square. He was released later.

No official confirmation of this report has been available to Interfax so far.
