Nearly 500 kg of heroin seized in Moscow in nine months of 2014

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) Moscow department has seized over 480 kilograms of heroin in 2014, which is three times more than a year ago, a source in the department press service told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The city department of Russia's FSKN has seized almost three times more heroin than in the relevant period of 2013," he said.

"More than 480 kilograms of heroin were impounded in the first nine months of 2014, compared with approximately 173 kilograms in the corresponding period of 2013," he continued.

A total of 483 suspects were arrested and 108 of them were foreigners, including 96 citizens of Tajikistan.

"The police launched 491 criminal inquiries on counts of heroin trafficking in the first nine months of this year," the source added.
