NATO pledges to carry on cooperation with Georgia

TBILISI. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The North Atlantic Alliance will continue cooperation with Georgia, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, U.S. European Command Commander Gen. Philip Breedlove said.

NATO expects closer cooperation with Georgia, he said at a press conference in Tbilisi on Wednesday at the end of his meeting with Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania.

The minister said they had discussed joint exercises and the opening of a joint training center in Georgia. Regional affairs were on their table too.

Earlier today Breedlove met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

The premier's press service reported they had discussed the outcomes of the recent NATO summit in Wales.

The Georgian prime minister thanked the U.S. general for the support rendered by the United States to the Georgian integration with NATO.

The sides also spoke about Georgia's involvement in international operations, including the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
