Russian customs officials have registered many attempts to bring in embargoed food - Federal Customs service official
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The Russian customs have registered over 800 attempts to bring embargoed food into Russia since Russia imposed an embargo on foreign food, Vyacheslav Goloskokov, the head of the risk and operative control department of the Federal Customs service, told Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at the exhibit Customs Service 2014.
"A total of 818 batches have been registered as customs control. Import was prohibited. A total of 139 cases of administrative violations have been opened," he said.
Specifically, Goloskokov told reporters that the Russian customs have seen batches of Dutch pork declared to be puree from China, unidentified cheese disguised as technical protein mixture, and dry milk from Poland disguised as barium carbonate from China.
Goloskokov said administrative violation cases were only opened when false declarations were filed, and in other cases, only import was prohibited.
