Canada events prove terrorism should be fought jointly, with Russia - Kremlin

SOCHI. Oct 23 (Interfax) - The events in Ottawa have proved that terrorism can only be fought jointly, and not without Russia, says Sergey Ivanov, the chief of the Russian presidential administration.

"Even earlier, during the well-known events in Chechnya, we said openly that this problem is not just Russia's. More than ten years have passed since. What is happening with extremism now is, in my view, confirmed by yesterday's events in Ottawa," Ivanov told reporters.

He added: "Speaking seriously, seriously and responsibly, without pitfalls and so-called national interests, then, of course, terrorism can only be fought jointly, without double standards."

Asked whether the West could do without Russia in the fight against terrorism, he said: "In my view, the answer is obvious: of course not."
