Viktor Nazarenko appointed Ukraine border guard chief

KYIV. Oct 23 (Interfax) - President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday appointed Lt. Gen. Viktor Nazarenko as head of the State Border Guard Service.

Until then Nazarenko had been first deputy head of the Border Guard Service, according to a statement from the president's office.

"The head of state expressed hope that as chairman, Viktor Nazarenko would improve the performance of the State Border Guard Service in carrying out its vitally important tasks and would primarily ensure the implementation of measures to make the Ukrainian borders more secure," the statement said.
