Putin: widespread U.S. interference doesn't bring peace, heyday of democracy

SOCHI. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The U.S. interference in all international affairs does not bring peace and heyday of democracy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Maybe the exclusivity of the U.S., the way they realize their leadership, is truly good? Does their widespread interference in all activities in the world bring peace, calm and wellbeing? Progress and the heyday of democracy? They just need to, as we say, relax and enjoy this wellbeing. Right?" Putin said at a conference in the international discussion club Valdai.

Putin said unilateral diktats and attempts made by the U.S. to force their standards on other countries cause exactly the opposite effect. Instead of being resolved, conflicts are being escalated and sovereign and stable states turn into a growing chaos. Instead of democracy, the support of a dubious public, from open neo-Nazis to Islamic radicals," he said.

Putin reiterated that Islamists are being supported "to achieve some goals, and then they get hurt."
