Shoigu to discuss Union State security with Belarus military officials

MINSK. Oct 27 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is expected to meet with senior Belarusian military officials in Minsk on October 29 to discus security issues.

"Russian Defense Minister, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu will arrive in Minsk on October 29 to attend a regular meeting of Belarusian and Russian military officials," the Belarusian Defense Ministry's press service told Interfax on Monday.

The talks will deal with Union State security, it said.

The issues to be discussed include air defense, the joint protection of the Union State's air space and the formation of a Belarusian-Russian single regional air defense system.

"The agenda also includes joint combat training in 2015, interaction in radio electronic defense and preparations for celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War," a Belarusian Defense Ministry spokesman said.

Shoigu will have one-on-one talks with his Belarusian counterpart Lt. Gen. Yury Zhadobin.

Talks will also be held between the Belarusian and Russian General Staff chiefs Maj. Gen Oleg Belokonev and General of the Army Valery Gerasimov.
