Moscow, Minsk drawing up tens of mutually-beneficial weapons contracts, over 50 signed - Belarusian defense minister

MINSK. Oct 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is Belarus's main partner in supplies of military products and the maintenance and modernization of weapons, Belarusian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Yury Zhadobin said.

"Russia is our main partner in supplies of military products and in the maintenance and modernization of weapons and military hardware. Our country ships military products on privileged terms. We have concluded more than 50 contracts on the delivery and modernization of military hardware, and tens of other contracts are currently being developed or cleared," Zhadobin said at a session of the joint board of the Belarusian and Russian Defense Ministries in Minsk on Wednesday.

The two countries have achieved significant results in other areas of military cooperation as well, which gives grounds to describe interaction between the two defense ministries as "exemplary for our counterparts from other agencies," he said.

Zhadobin said he is sure that Wednesday's meeting of the joint board of the Belarusian and Russian Defense Ministries would serve as another forum dealing with "a number of issues concerning the creation of new and the perfection of the existing security systems in the military sector and some revision of the legislative basis, which also requires improvement."
