Kazakh border guard service chief charged with setting up gang, remanded into custody

ASTANA. Oct 30 (Interfax) - The military court of Kazakhstan's Akmola garrison has ordered that the director of the Kazakh National Security Committee's border guard service, Nurlan Dzhulamanov, be remanded into custody, a court spokesman told Interfax on Thursday.

"The military court of the Akmola garrison has remanded Nurlan Dzhulamanov into custody until December 27, 2014 as a restraining measure," the spokesman said.

Dzhulamanov faces charges of "accepting a very large bribe, establishing, leading and participating in an organized group involved in one or several crimes, as well as abuse of power."

The official was detained on October 27. The criminal case opened against him is being handled by the Kazakh Main Military Prosecutor's Office.
