Fourteen ethnic gangs caught in Operation Migrant in Moscow
MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax) - The Moscow police have apprehended 44 members of 14 ethnic gangs in the course of Operation Migrant, deputy head of the city police department's criminal investigative division Mikhail Gusakov said.
"During 2014 Operation Migrant, the city police neutralized 14 organized ethnic groups. Forty-four persons were detained," Gusakov said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He said one of the groups comprised people with origins in Central Asia and attacked warehouses.
"Another group robbed businessmen transporting cash. Seven people from Central Asia were staying in Moscow illegally. Two of them were crime lords in their home countries," Gusakov said.
People with the origins in the South Caucasus were burglars and another group was hijacking vehicles. "Their storage site has been detected and the vehicles have been recovered. The group's involvement in other crimes is being proven," he added.
