Over 23 tonnes of drugs seized in Kazakhstan in Jan-Sept 2014 - Interior Ministry

ALMATY. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's police uncovered 2,765 drug-related crimes in January-September 2014, the Kazakh Interior Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

More than 23 tonnes of different drugs, including 217 kilograms of heroin, were confiscated in the country over this period, it said.

The number of people suffering from drug addiction in Kazakhstan has declined 11.5% over the past three years from 40,858 to 36,137 people, the ministry said. The rate of drug abuse among women has dropped 11% (from 3,114 to 2,759 people), and the rate of drug abuse among under-age citizens has fallen 63% (from 2,069 to 762 people).
