Kazakhstan to supply Kyrgyzstan 400 mln kWh of electricity before yearend, in 2015 1.4 bln kWh
ASTANA. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan will supply Kyrgyzstan with 400 million kWh of electricity before the end of 2014, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a press conference in Astana.
"At the request of the president of Kyrgyzstan, we are offering help with electricity supplies - 400 million kWh this year and 1.4 billion kWh next year," Nazarbayev said after talks with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev.
"Despite technical costs for us, we are resolving this issue. In their turn our Kyrgyz friends have attested to the fulfillment of agreements on the provision of Kazakhstan with irrigation water in the growing season, which is of fundamental importance for us," the Kazakh leader said.
This year Kyrgyzstan is experiencing a shortage of electricity that is necessary for getting through the autumn and winter period. According to preliminary data, the shortage amounts to 2.5 billion kWh and the authorities are planning to offset that shortage with additional supplies from Kazakhstan, they are also holding talks with Turkmenistan.
