Russian-Indian cooperation may speed up dissemination of GLONASS technologies
MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - The non-commercial partnership of GLONASS actively supports the plans for Russian-Indian cooperation in the use of satellite navigation, Alexander Bondarenko, international projects director at NP GLONASS, told Interfax-AVN.
"We believe the production of GLONASS navigation terminals in India has very good prospects and we will assist the implementation of this project," Bondarenko said, commenting on a decision made by an intergovernmental Russian-Indian commission on trade-economic, technological and cultural cooperation chaired by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who spoke for joint production of chip sets for GLONASS devices.
Bondarenko recalled that Russia and India included the proposal to intensify cooperation on the introduction of GLONASS in India in the protocol of the meeting of the Russian-Indian working group on trade-economic and investment cooperation in late October.
"Russia has accumulated successful experience of implementing large-scale projects in the sphere of satellite navigation such as ERA-GLONASS, and it can be used in India," he said.
Bondarenko said Russia proposed to create a Russian-Indian fund amounting to $1-2.5 billion, which will focus on supporting joint projects, at the meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Indian commission on trade-economic, technological and cultural cooperation on Wednesday.
"The projects to deploy the production of chip sets and equipment supporting GLONASS, introduce solutions and build systems using GLONASS can be promptly realized by this development institute," Bondarenko said.
