Georgian parliament retains pro-government majority
TBILISI. Nov 7 (Interfax) - The Georgian parliament's ruling coalition "Georgian Dream" was able to retain the majority required for passing legislation thanks to the defector deputy Gedevan Popkhadze.
Popkhadze told reporters on Friday that he decided to stay within the parliamentary majority. His vote became 76th for the ruling coalition.
The Georgian parliament consists of 150 seats.
According to Popkhadze, very soon he is planning to apply for withdrawal from the Free Democrats faction and for membership in the Georgian Dream Party.
It was reported earlier that the withdrawal of the Free Democrats faction from the parliamentary majority put the ruling coalition at risk of losing key positions in the parliament
Some Free Democrats have refused to withdraw from the coalition and decided to remain in the majority.
