Militia claims shootouts in Donetsk airport area
DONETSK/KYIV. Nov 10 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army has conducted several artillery strikes on the Donetsk airport and the Oktyabrsky mining camp in the past 24 hours, a source in the militia staff has told Interfax.
"Our positions in the area of airport were shelled by the Ukrainian army more than three times on Sunday, November 9. Besides, the army used incendiary munitions against the northern outskirts of the city," he said.
Information about possible casualties and damage is being updated.
In turn, a report posted on the official website of the Donetsk mayor and the City Council claimed a period of relative calm.
"Single shots were sporadically audible in many districts of the city last night. Donetsk was relatively quiet as of 10 a.m. Public utility service is operating well," the report said.
Repairs of utility networks continue, and the damage done to gas mains on November 8-9 has been confined.
The Petrovsky district water mains and sewage were shelled at the weekend, the City Council said, adding that the roof and windows of the water and sewage service's building were hit by shells in the early hours of Sunday. The service personnel were not hurt. The City Council recommended that residents boil tap water for five to seven minutes before using it for cooking.
The Information Resistance Group, which is close to the Ukrainian law enforcement authorities, claimed on Monday that there had been over 65 attacks on Ukrainian army positions in the past 24 hours.
Group leader Dmytro Tymchuk wrote on Facebook that 32 shooting incidents had happened in the Debaltseve sector.
There were 13 attacks in the Donetsk sector and another six in the Luhansk sector, Tymchuk added.
According to Tymchuk, Ukrainian army positions also came under fire near the towns of Olkhovatka, Chornukhyne, Nikishyne, Ridkozub, Leninske, Mius, Trekhizbenka and Piski.
