Russia may ban trade in GMO-containing products - Rospotrebnadzor director
MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - The Russian government is discussing the possibility of banning the sale of products containing genetically modified organisms (GMO), Rospotrebnadzor Director Anna Popova said.
"The Russian government is now considering developing a program that envisages the inclusion of an item on removing [GMO products from circulation]. GMO production is completely non-existent in Russia and such products may be removed from circulation. This issue is being considered," Popova said at the first reading of the bill on fines for violations of the requirements on the labeling of GMO-containing products held in the State Duma.
