Ukraine, foreign military presence near borders, exacerbates situation in parts of Russia - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the military-political situation on the southwestern strategic track remains difficult.

"This is largely due to the situation in Ukraine, the fuelling of anti-Russian tendencies by NATO and the increase in the foreign military presence in direct vicinity of our borders," Shoigu told the Russian Defense Ministry collegium on Wednesday.

The meeting addressed the formation of a group of troops on the territory of the Crimean Federal District, Shoigu said.

"An analysis of the possible developments of the events dictates the need to support the troops of the Southern Military district in their readiness to ensure the military security of the country and its allies on the southwestern strategic track. In this situation, the priorities include the formation of a full-fledged and self-sufficient multi-service group of troops on the Crimean Peninsula," Shoigu said.
