Freight turnover down 1.1% in Kazakhstan in Jan-Oct
ASTANA. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Freight turnover in Kazakhstan totaled 395.413 billion tonne-km in January-October 2014, down 1.1% year-on-year, said the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry.
In the reporting period, rail transportation declined by 5.3% to 174.859 billion tonne-km, while road transportation rose by 7.2% to 124.930 billion tonne-km. Sea transportation fell by 7.3% to 2.028 billion tonne-km, and air transportation decreased by 20.8% to 39.8 million tonne-km.
Pipeline transportation was down 2.9% at 93.531 billion tonne-km.
Passenger traffic increased in the reporting period by 6.6% year-on-year to 204.449 billion passenger-kilometers.
The population of Kazakhstan exceeds 17.3 million individuals.
