Steel production in Kazakhstan up 17.2%, gold - 10% in Jan-Oct

ALMATY. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan produced 3.340 million tonnes of crude steel in January-October 2014, an increase of 17.2% compared with the same period last year, the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry said.

In January-October 2014, the output of flat steel products rose 16.3% to 2.149 million tonnes, production of galvanized steel grew 5% to 449,829 tonnes and production of tin-plate and tin-plated sheet fell 11.56% to 68,962 tonnes.

The republic produced 1.417 million tonnes of ferroalloys in the reporting period, an increase of 0.5% year-on-year.

Kazakhstan extracted 42.874 million tonnes of iron ore in January-October 2014, up 0.5% year-on-year, the Statistics Committee said. The country also produced 32.467 million tonnes of copper ore, a decrease of 6% year-on-year, 4.421 million tonnes of copper and zinc ore, down 1.2%, and 5.543 million tonnes of lead and zinc ore, down 8.3%.

According to the committee, the output of copper in concentrate in the reporting period amounted to 384,500 tonnes, up 4.5%, and zinc in concentrate to 286,700 tonnes, down 4.6%.

The country also produced 38,470 kg of refined gold in January-October 2014, an increase of 9.7% year-on-year, the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry said. Kazakhstan produced 797,702 kg of refined silver, a decrease of 1.4% compared with the same period last year.

In the reporting period, the output of unmanufactured zinc came to 270,431 tonnes, up 1.7% year-on-year, and unmanufactured refined copper production amounted to 232,147 tonnes, down 23.1%.
