Samona closes down operations in Ukraine
KYIV. Nov 17 (Interfax) - The Finnish media holding Sanoma has decided to discontinue its business operations in Ukraine, including the publication of the magazines National Geographic, Esquire and some others, Sanoma reported on its website on Monday.
"As a result of the strategic review announced on 31 October 2013, Sanoma has made the decision to discontinue business operations in Ukraine in agreement with all other shareholders and license partners. January 2015 issues will be the last to be published. Online media will continue until 31 December 2014," the report says.
Besides the publications mentioned above, Sanoma publishes the following magazines in Ukraine: Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan Ukraine, Good Housekeeping, and Men's Health. Three of these four publications will also be closed.
According to Russian media reports, the right to publish Cosmopolitan Ukraine has been obtained by Hearst Shkulev Media, a Russian partner of the Finnish media.
"The publishing house Hearst Shkulev Ukraine has acquired a license for the publication of Cosmopolitan and the site cosmo.com.ua. The first edition of the Ukrainian magazine Cosmopolitan published by Hearst Shkulev Ukraine will be the February edition, which will go on sale in mid-January 2015," Hearst Shkulev Ukraine said on its official website on Monday.
Hearst Shkulev Ukraine will begin working on its online project in December 2014. The publication's editor-in-chief will be Anna Bazdreva.
Hearst Shkulev Ukraine also publishes the magazines ELLE Ukraine and MAXIM Ukraine.
