Tehran may agree to phased lift of sanctions if final nuclear deal is made - expert
MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Iran does not insist on the simultaneous lift of all sanctions in the case it makes a final nuclear deal with the P5+1 group and is ready for a phased approach, Center for Contemporary Iranian Studies Director Rajab Safarov said.
"Iran has accepted that option a long time ago. Iran tells them [the sextet] to ask 16 or 28 questions. It will give answers to the first package of six questions and do everything the way they want. But they would have to lift the unilateral sanctions immediately. After that answers will be given to the second package of questions and all the other issues will be resolved in exchange for lifting another part of international sanctions. However, they are unwilling to do so," Safarov told Interfax on Tuesday.
In the opinion of the expert, the United States is not interested in solving the Iranian nuclear problem but is using it as a pretext for changing the regime in Tehran.
"I believe the real goal of the U.S. is not to protect the regime of [nuclear] non-proliferation but to lay groundwork for a change of the political regime in Iran on the sly and under this pretext," Safarov said.
Even if Tehran fully stopped its nuclear activity, Washington would be searching for other mechanisms of influence on the Iranian administration, he added.
