FM Lavrov: Economic blockade of Donbas may be reason for recognition of special legal subjectivity of DPR, LPR
MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Kyiv's economic blockade of southeastern Ukraine may be a reason for the recognition of the special legal subjectivity of the Luhansk and Donetsk people's republics, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in his speech at the State Duma on Wednesday.
The minister was asked whether the Ukrainian president's decree on the economic blockade of southeastern regions could be a step towards the recognition of the special legal subjectivity of the LPR and the DPR.
"Indeed this fact could quite possibly be used for validating the thesis you have mentioned," Lavrov said.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on November 14 to put into effect the November 4 resolution of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) which stopped the activity of enterprises and organizations in the army operation zone in eastern Ukraine within a weeklong period.
In addition, Poroshenko's decree put into effect the November 4 resolution of the NSDC, which compelled the Ukrainian National Bank to stop the servicing of bank accounts of enterprises and the population in the army operation zone in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions within a month.
