Medvedev calls for breakthrough on shipbuilding market
MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russia is considerably behind the world's leading manufacturers on the shipbuilding market and the situation needs to change by 2030, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.
"We have to admit we are far behind the world's leading manufacturers even on our own market, let alone the global market. This market is special and the business in itself is difficult," Medvedev said at a meeting on the long-term development programs of the United Shipbuilding Corporation and the United Aircraft-Building Corporation.
Nevertheless, Medvedev said the productivity of shipbuilding is expected to more than double by 2030.
"The share of exports in the sphere of military-technical cooperation should be increased from 10% to 25% and the share of civil products should increase to 22%," he said.
Medvedev also said the development of shipbuilding is a key factor in the wellbeing of some territories, primarily coastal territories where shipyards are located. "This includes out new territories, Sevastopol and Crimea in general. They require special attention," he said.
