Bishkek official: Kyrgyzstan "has no path other than that leading into EEU"

BISHKEK. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan will be ready to sign a treaty on its entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on December 23, the director of the Kyrgyz presidential administration's foreign policy department, Sapar Isakov, told Interfax.

"Our country is making all necessary preparations in order to sign a treaty on accession to the Eurasian Economic Union at the next session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow on December 23," he said.

The EEU relies on the contractual and legal framework of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space and is expected to begin functioning on January 1, 2015, Saparov said.

"In this context, it is necessary to honor all commitments as part of two earlier adopted roadmaps - a roadmap for accession to the Customs Union and a roadmap for accession to the Common Economic Space - in order to ensure Kyrgyzstan's full-fledged membership in this union," he said.

The Kyrgyz parliament is expected to adopt the whole set of bills needed to implement these roadmaps before December 10, after which the country will be able to sign an agreement to join the EEU Treaty, which was concluded by the presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia in Astana, Saparov said.

"Kyrgyzstan has no path other than that leading into the Eurasian Economic Union," he said.

The treaty establishing the Eurasian Economic Union was signed by the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia in Astana on May 29. Armenia joined it in October.
