We must do everything to prevent 'color revolutions' in Russia - Putin

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that extremism poses a threat to national security and has called for everything to be done to prevent "color revolutions" in Russia.

"Extremism is a threat to national security and can radically unbalance the political, economic and social systems. Nationalism, religious intolerance, political extremisms are forms of extremism that are most dangerous for society and the state," Putin told the Russian Security council on Thursday at a meeting that focused on the government's anti-extremism concept.

Such crimes can provoke mass violations of public order, the head of state stressed.

"In the present-day world, extremism is being used as a tool of geopolitics and redrawing spheres of influence. We can see the tragic consequences the wave of so-called 'color revolutions' has led to and what upheavals were and are being experienced by the countries which have gone through irresponsible experiments of hidden, and at times gross, or "crashing" as we say here, outside meddling in their life," Putin said.

"For us it is a lesson and warning, and we must do whatever is necessary it to prevent something similar from ever happening in Russia," he said.
