Poroshenko, Komorowski in Chisinau to support Moldova's EU integration
CHISINAU. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko and his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski have stated that their joint visit to Chisinau aims to support the process of Moldova's European integration.
The two leaders made this statement at their meeting with Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Moldovan government told Interfax on Thursday.
"We came to demonstrate our support for the European future of the Republic of Moldova. The government led by you has done a great deal of concrete things: we saw new roads, schools and hospitals. I hope the country's citizens will appreciate that," Poroshenko said.
"The Ukrainians have already realized that for a better life there is no alternative to a union with the EU," he said. "It is obvious that we must go together, we have a lot to do: cooperation on security, resolving the Transdniestrian conflict, improving the economic situation," Poroshenko said.
For his part, Komorowski said that the current visit to Chisinau is a sign of solidarity with Moldova and its bid to find its way into the West. "Poland has been an EU member for ten years now. Thanks to it, every citizen has become freer, richer and aware of living in safety. We are wishing the same to Moldova and will support it on this path," the Polish president said.
For his part, Leanca welcomed Ukraine's pro-European course and the efforts being made towards this goal. "We share the same European values with the people of Ukraine. We count on further support from Poland and other EU countries in implementing the reforms and modernizing our country in order to achieve our goal of joining the EU," Leanca said.
