EU to support Kyrgyz democracy, electoral system reform with almost 200 mln euro
BISHKEK. Nov 25 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev has informed Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev about the outcomes of the EU-Kyrgyz Cooperation Council sitting held in Brussels last week, the presidential press service told Interfax on Tuesday.
The European Union has decided to allot 184 million euro to Kyrgyzstan in 2014-2020 for backing socioeconomic transformations in that country. The sum is 74% larger than the allocations for the previous period, the press service quoted Abdyldaev as saying.
"In addition, the European Union will grant 10 million euro to support reform of the Kyrgyzstan electoral system and democratic elections [Kyrgyzstan has parliamentary elections in fall 2015]," the minister said.
Atambayev "noted the importance of bolstering cooperation with the European Union and implementing joint projects in various spheres, including reform of the republic's electoral system," the press service reported.
