Kyiv ready to cooperate with CIS on economic matters - Foreign Ministry
KYIV. Nov 25 (Interfax) - Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the CIS member-states without the organization's politicization, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said.
"Ukraine is interested in economic cooperation with the CIS member-states, considering that it should be depoliticized, comply with the WTO principles and norms, and should not go against the provisions of Ukraine's association agreement with the European Union," Perebyinis said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, hosted a regular meeting of the CIS prime ministers on November 21, at which Ukraine was represented by its Ambassador to Turkmenistan Valentyn Shevalyov.
Ukraine participated in this event chiefly due to the need to address practical aspects of economic cooperation within the CIS, which is of interest to it, Perebyinis said.
The participants in the meeting focused on the condition of the October 18, 2011 treaty on a free trade area.
"In light of the Russian Federation's violation of this treaty's provisions, a Ukrainian representative made an official statement, in which it was declared that Russia's unilateral duty on Ukrainian goods in an amount of a most-favored nation treatment rate and the imposition of sanitary, phyto-sanitary and technical barriers is unacceptable. The Russian Federation was urged to stop using its unfair approach toward implementing its international legal obligations under this treaty," Perebyinis said.
