Centrenergo holdings talks on resumption of Russian coal supplies
KYIV. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Centrenergo generating company is holding talks on the resumption of coal supplies from Russia which were suspended due to unclear reasons, and the terms of their resumption are unknown, the company's press service said.
The press service said that the volume of coal from Russia and South Africa contracted earlier would have been enough to pass the autumn and winter period.
A check of the conditions of the contract signed by Ukrinterenergo with Steel Mont Trading by law-enforcers has resulted in the restriction of supplies of coal from South Africa bin halved to 490,000 tonnes.
As of November 26, 2014, coal stocks at Centrenergo's thermal power plants amount to 200,000 tonnes thanks to supplies of coal from South Africa. Coal stock for stable operation of power plants was over one million tonnes a year ago.
The press service said that Centrenergo's thermal power plants continue operating under the schedule. A total of 12 units worked as of morning of November 26, which allows generating over 50,000 MWh of electricity during a day on average and supply heat to residents of towns-satellites.
Coal stocks are enough for two or three weeks without regular supplies of coal. The company is focusing on the search of alternative sources of coal supplies.
