Some 4,000 observers to monitor Moldovan parliamentary elections

CHISINAU. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Over 4,000 local and international observers will take part in the monitoring of the parliamentary elections in Moldova.

The country's Central Election Commission (CEC) head Rodica Sirbu told Interfax on Wednesday that over 3,000 local observers and about 1,000 international ones have been accredited the day before the deadline for their registration.

"Local observers (3,057) are representatives from 13 nongovernmental organizations and associations. Besides, 191 observers from Moldova will monitor the election process on November 30 at polling stations abroad," Sirbu said.

She said that foreign observers represent 36 countries. "In all, we have accredited 745 observers from 52 international organizations. Central Election Commissions from 15 countries sent 38 representatives to Moldova, the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) - 314 observers, and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly - 68," Sirbu said.

On Wednesday, the CEC is accrediting observers from the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM).

Moldova's previous parliamentary elections, in 2010, were monitored by 3,554 local and 594 international observers.
