Contact Group for Ukraine effective, but Moscow has not rejected other settlement formats - top Russian diplomat
MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Moscow considers the trilateral Contact Group for the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis to be effective, but it has not rejected other formats either, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov told Interfax.
"The Minsk format is a viable mechanism. It is highly important that representatives of Ukraine's southeast take part in this work. What is obvious today is that the Minsk format is the most representative one from the point of view of effectiveness and inclusivity," he said.
"But Russia has never rejected other formats either," the deputy minister said.
However, some officials disagree that the work of the trilateral Contact Group for Ukraine has been successful, Meshkov said.
"Not everyone likes the Minsk format, which has actually helped achieve certain results," he said.
Agreements concerning Ukraine's constitutional reform that were earlier reached in Geneva have not been observed, Meshkov said.
"A highly important agreement was reached in Geneva in spring to implement constitutional reform in Ukraine involving all regions and all political forces of the country. But, regrettably, these agreements do not work," the high-ranking diplomat said.
