Hydrogen sulfide smell reported from Shchelkovo in Moscow region
MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The hydrogen sulfide levels 2.5 times exceeded maximum allowable concentrations (MAC) in the suburban town of Shchelkovo, Moscow region, on Friday morning, the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) said.
"Air pollution with hydrogen sulfide was high in Shchelkovo. The levels of this substance 2.5 times exceeded the MAC on Komarova Street in the morning hours of November 28," says a Roshydromet report seen by Interfax on Friday.
"Air pollution levels were low" in other cities of the Moscow region where the monitoring was done, the report said.
The service added that the air pollution would worsen in Moscow and the region in the early morning hours of Saturday and improve again in the afternoon.
The unpleasant smell of hydrogen sulfide frightened Muscovites on November 28. A number of air quality monitoring stations in Moscow registered levels exceeding the maximum one-time allowable concentrations of the substance.
