Naryshkin: process of reunion of Crimea and Russia was fully in line with intl law
SIMFEROPOL. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Russian State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said Russian legislators, including deputies of the State Assembly of Crimea, should not give reasons for the negative interpretations in the West of the processes associated with the reunion of Crimea and Russia.
"It's no secret that information on the history of Crimea and on the current situation in Crimea is still being hidden and sometimes blocked in the Western media. Our ill-wishes would very much like to hang on to any problems that sometimes arise," Naryshkin said at the meeting of the State Assembly of Crimea held in Simferopol on Monday.
"We have a duty to do everything to ensure that they have no such reasons," he said.
Naryshkin said "not everyone in the world knows the truth about Crimea, the truth about the current situation, about the history of Crimea," adding that there are reasons for that. "They are especially keeping silent about the fact that Crimea had all legal foundations for self-determination and the process of return and reunion of Crimea was fully in line with the norms and standards of international law," he said.
"For this reason, the legal community of Crimea and Sevastopol is required to provide a clear legal analysis of these and the preceding events so that no one doubts anymore and cannot distort and hide the will of the people of Crimea and the will of the people of Sevastopol," Naryshkin said.
Naryshkin pointed out that very many things, including issues relating to the integration of Crimea and Sevastopol into the legal space of Russia, depend on the professional work of the legislators of Crimea, Sevastopol and the State Duma.
