Further shelling reported in southeastern Ukraine
MOSCOW/KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax) - The militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) has accused Kyiv of continuing to carry out strikes in defiance of the declared truce.
"The situation has not changed even despite the declared truce. The Ukrainian army was shelling our positions and populated areas of the LPR all through the night, and continues to do so on Friday morning," a spokesman for the self-proclaimed republic's Defense Ministry told Interfax.
Any ceasefire is valid only if it is mutually observed by all sides, the spokesman said.
"If strikes targeting our cities continue, we will be forced to respond," he added.
Ukrainian government forces, for their part, reported that their positions have come under fire 55 times over the past 24 hours. Three civilians were killed and another three were injured, they said.
"Different types of weapons, mortars and multiple-launch rocket systems were used in these strikes. Illegal armed units are still active near Luhansk, Debaltseve, Donetsk and Mariupol," the Ukrainian army's press center said.
The Ukrainian army launched artillery strikes in response on 31 occasions, the press center said.
