General Staff: West trying to weaken offensive potential of Russian strategic nuclear forces
MOSCOW. Dec 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The West is trying to reduce the Russian military-economic potential, according to Russian Armed Forces General Staff Chief Gen. of the Army Valery Gerasimov.
"Efforts are being taken to implement concrete measures which are aimed at weakening the offensive potential of the Russian strategic nuclear forces," Gerasimov told foreign military attaches in Moscow on Wednesday.
"The expansion of the combat capacities of the U.S. global missile defense network is a major way of such counteraction," the military commander said.
"The military potential created for it under noble pretexts will exceed the levels required for the neutralization of both the existent and potential missile threats to Europe many times," Gerasimov stated.
"Yet in spite of our numerous propositions, neither the United States, nor European countries nor NATO as a whole wishes to guarantee that it will not be used against the Russian Federation," he emphasized.
