Some 1,366 children killed, 7,000 gone missing in Russia in 2014

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - A total of 1,366 children were killed and more than 7,000 went missing in Russia in the first nine months of this year, Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin said at a Committee Board meeting on Thursday.

"Investigative bodies investigated more than 17,000 crimes against minors - 593 murders, more than 1,500 rapes and nearly 4,500 sexual abuse cases - in 2013," Bastrykin said.

Over 12,000 crimes against children were investigated during the first nine months of this year, he said, adding that 1,366 children had been murdered and more than 7,000 had been declared missing.

"A considerable number of crimes against children are on the conscience of citizens of near-abroad countries [i.e. former Soviet republics] and we should not be hypocritical about that," Bastrykin underscored.
