Russian expert Ryabinin appointed UNESCO Deputy Dir-Gen

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova has appointed Russian expert Vladimir Ryabinin as the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Executive Secretary in the rank of UNESCO Deputy Director-General, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

The IOC founded in 1960 is a UNESCO agency operating in the field of oceanic science, monitoring, data exchange and data use in the prevention of tsunami and other areas.

As of 2014, the IOC has 147 member countries.
