Serdyukov summoned to court as witness in Oboronservice case - source
MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Former defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov has been summoned to court for questioning in the Oboronservice case, a source with knowledge of the situation told Interfax on Friday.
"Today, the ex-minister was sent a summons to the Moscow Presnensky District Court to be questioned as a witness. The date is stated as December 24," the source said.
The source said "the summons has most likely not reached the addressee yet and therefore Serdyukov and his lawyers do not know about the summons and about the date."
Yevgenia Vasilyeva, former head of the Defense Ministry's property relations department, is a key suspect in the criminal case involving the sale of real estate and the embezzlement of funds belonging to JSC Oboronservice, which is controlled by the Defense Ministry.
According to the case materials, Vasilyeva is charged with 12 counts of criminal activity, which caused total damage of over 3 billion rubles.
She is charged with fraud; legalization of the proceeds of crime, abuse of office, and exceeding her authority.
According to investigators, Vasilyeva "used her position of employment to select the most liquid real-estate assets, shares and other assets owned by Oboronservice, and subsequently organized their sale at a knowingly marked-down price."
The investigators believe that Vasilyeva personally disposed of the firms she controlled. There is evidence that Vasilyeva received millions of rubles in cash from people who were responsible for the legalization of stolen funds.
