11 St-Etienne fans hospitalized in Kyiv after clash with Dnipro fans
MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Sport-Express/Interfax) - Eleven fans of the French Football Club St-Etienne sustained heavy injuries in a clash with Ukrainian fans after a group stage of the UEFA Europa League with FC Dnipro (0:1).
The injured fans were taken to one of hospitals in Kyiv. Some of them had minor injuries, according to FC St-Etienne's website.
The managers of the French club expressed regret over the fact that the French fans were the ones who started the fight at a bar in the Ukrainian capital.
The French fans were given assurances that the French Embassy will see to their safe transfer to the airport and that the injured ones are sent back home on the plane with the team.
According to the Kyiv police, the fight took place on the corner of Khreschatyk and Prorezna Streets on Thursday evening. Two Ukrainian fans have been arrested.
The Dnipropetrovsk-based club Dnipro reached the UEFA European League 1/16 final match after beating the French club 1:0. The only goal was scored by defender Artem Fedetskyi in the 66th minute.
In another Group F match, Azerbaijan's FC Qarabag played Italy's Inter Milan. The game ended in a draw, to Dnipro's satisfaction.
After six tournaments, Inter came top of Group F with 12 points. Dnipro scored 7 points. Qarabag scored six, and St-Etienne completed the group stage with five points.
