Prime ministers of Russia, Afghanistan speak for development of bilateral cooperation

ASTANA. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had negotiations with his Afghan counterpart Abdullah Abdullah at the meeting of the Council of the Heads of Governments f the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.

"Such events as a meeting of the heads of governments of the SCO countries is a good opportunity to discuss regional issues and bilateral relations," Medvedev said at the beginning of the meeting. Medvedev also said he is hoping that the relations between Russia and Afghanistan will remain good and the cooperation between the two countries will continue developing.

The Afghan prime minister, for his part, recalled that Russia has provided serious support to the people of Afghanistan. "We are hoping that our cooperation will continue," he said.

Abdullah ran for president in Afghanistan this year and received 45% of the votes in the first round. He eventually reached an agreement with his main rival, Ashraf Ghani and agreed to take the post of Afghanistan's CEO, which is an analogue of prime minister.
