Ukraine-EU association agreement may take effect in a year - Poroshenko administration

KYIV. Dec 15 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian presidential administration said it is hoping that the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU may take effect by the end of 2015.

"This [the ratification rates] gives us a chance to hope that the ratification of the association agreement will not take several years, as some experts have predicted, but it may take full effect by the end of next year," Valeriy Chaly, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, told a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

Chaly recalled that the inauguration meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council is held on Monday and in this context it is important not to delay the enactment f the association agreement. "Eleven EU countries have now ratified the agreement," he said.

Chaly said Ukraine is actively working on ensuring that the document can take effect as soon as possible.
