Iskander missiles returned to Russia proper from Kaliningrad following snap inspection - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Units of a missile brigade of Russia's Western Military District armed with the Iskander-M tactical missile systems have been returned from the Kaliningrad region to their permanent base in an internal region of Russia following a snap inspection of the troops' readiness.

The missile units had earlier been swiftly relocated to the Kaliningrad region in a surprise inspection of their readiness to perform a number of training combat missions as part of a multi-service force, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

"At the present time, all vehicles and weapons are in new heated mobile tent shelters. The missile brigade's personnel started their servicing following the march," it said.

The inspection was conducted in line with Russian President and Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin's order from December 5 to 10, it said.
