Steps to minimize impact of crisis on Russians likely to be taken in next few days - Peskov

MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax) - A number of measures will be taken in the next few days to minimize the impact of the crisis on the population, the Kremlin says.

"It can well be assumed that a number of measures will follow in the next few days aimed at minimizing these crisis effects, the possible negative effects of manifestations of crisis on the country's population," presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Russia 24 channel.

The government "that bears responsibility for all economic processes and economic decisions" is working round the clock, he said.

"There is reason for cautious optimism. We know that yesterday and today the government and Central Bank worked very intensively to synchronize their actions. We know of some steps that will be taken to normalize and stabilize the situation," Peskov said.

"There are light times - such times are creative. And there are times of crisis when one should be rolling up one's sleeves," Peskov said.

Peskov recalled that in 2008 when Putin was prime minister he assumed responsibility for overcoming the crisis.

"In 2008, if you remember, Putin came out and said - it is a crisis, I am assuming responsibility, everything will turn out right. Did it turn out right? It did. Let's hope for the best this time too," the press secretary said.
