Belarus won't devalue its currency following Russian ruble slump - Lukashenko
MINSK. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Belarus will not devalue its national currency following the Russian ruble's sharp fall, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
"Our position remains the same. We are not going to chase Russia, this is categorically forbidden, because it's absolutely incomprehensible what is happening on the Russian market, who wants what and what's going to be there. The Russian market's volatility is just beyond any understanding," Lukashenko said at a conference dealing with economic problems in Minsk on Thursday.
The Belarusian government and National Bank have obligations to the people regarding the exchange rate policy, and they will honor these obligations, he said.
