Russia to bring over 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Latakia in Syria
MOSOW. Dec 18 (Interfax) - A special flight of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry departed for Syria on Thursday with humanitarian cargo on board, the ministry press service reported.
"A special Russian Emergency Situations Ministry flight has taken off from the Ramenskoye airfield in the Moscow region today with humanitarian cargo on board on the orders of the Russian government and is headed for the Syrian Arab Republic [the city of Latakia]," says a report posted on the ministry's website.
The Ilyushin Il-76 plane will deliver over 25 tonnes of relief, including canned meat and fish, sugar and baby food, the report said.
On its way back from Latakia, the plane will take aboard citizens wishing to leave the armed conflict zone, the ministry reported.
