Independent submarine brigade to be deployed on Russia's Black Sea Fleet by end of 2014 - report
MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - The Russian Navy's combat capacity will be increased through the deployment of an independent brigade of submarines on the Black Sea Fleet by the end of 2014, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at an expanded Defense Ministry board session on Friday.
A united strategic command has been set up in the Arctic region based on the Northern Fleet, with an anti-aircraft division and marine brigades deployed within it, and the formation of an Arctic motorized infantry brigade is nearing completion.
A tactical group including anti-surface ship and anti-aircraft systems has been deployed on the Kotelny island.
Special modular garrisons are being constructed in the Arctic region to ensure normal conditions of service, the report says.
